Our ability to cast our own ingots coupled with our stocks of pre forged billets enable Langley Alloys to react in record time to our customers’ requirements for high strength, corrosion resistant alloys.
Our in house air melting and tilt poured ingot production facility offers a flexible and effective source for ingots in Sizes from 10 inch Dia to 25 inch Dia in weights from 200 kg to 2,000kg.

The Tilt Pour Process

Our specialist method of casting ingots gives our material the following enhanced properties:

Reduced Casting turbulence

Tilt pouring through the slow rotation of the ingot throughout the casting process reduces metal turbulence and the risk of inclusions or cold lapping. The process is often likened that to the pouring of beer down the side of the glass.

Reduced Oxide and Non Metallic inclusions

Improved Surface finish

Improved Thermal Gradient

Tilt pouring is the ideal process for casting ingots due to the hottest metal being supplied to the head / feeder of the ingot, creating the best thermal solidification pattern. Unlike the more common bottom poured ingots that have the hottest material at the bottom of the Ingot, which reduces the effectiveness of the feeder, solidification is much more able to be controlled to produce adequately fed sound ingots. This results in:

Tilt pouring of Ingots has specific advantages in oxide forming alloys and grades with limited formability such as :
	Aluminium Bronze Alloys
	Copper-Nickel Alloys
	Copper-Silicon Alloys
	Some Nickel Alloys

Billets

We stock and Manufacture a wide range of Billet and Forging stock with a minimum of a 50% initial reduction in area in a size range from 4 inch to 16 inch in both square and round forms. Material can be supplied in both black as forged or surface ground conditions.
